When designing a house or work place, deciding the overall plan, choosing interior and furniture, a lot of thought is put in to the process when a person has the motive of attracting positive energy, and vibes. This enables them to practice healthy living standards. Feng Shui is simply a spatial arrangement and orientation in line with the flow of energy also known as “Chi”. Elements that are “Feng Shui friendly” are considered in line with how people connect with their surroundings as this is an art and science of creating harmonious environments.

The main objective of Feng Shui is to create positive changes in to the general living and working environments for it to support an individual better, rather than it turning in to an inconvenience or creating negative energy.  The basic core of Feng Shui is     seeking a balance between Yin and Yang; the interconnection and continuous change in the process of nature, Qi; a complex natural force generated by real and abstract sources like sunlight, colour vibrations, movement… etc., and the five elements; water, wood, fire, earth and metal, and there after Man and nature itself. The name Feng Shui has its own meaning where Feng means wind and Shui means water. Taking all this in to consideration the physical landscape is designed, space is allocated strategically, and all elements are placed in an appropriate place at an auspicious time.

Chi works in mysterious ways! One might feel a sense of tiredness, lack of focus or even feel discouraged when the flow of Chi is weak or blocked. Or one might feel out of control, overly emotional, or anxious most of the time if Chi flows too strongly. By analysing the entire layout and décor of a home Feng Shui is able to diagnose problems and enable possible solutions. In order to adjust the energy of the place; shape, colour, texture, sound, light, imagery, and the arrangement of furniture can be used. Thus gives a person an attractive, safe and nurturing space to live in comfort while achieving their goals and finding financial prosperity.

The place we tend to spend time the most is our bedroom – here are some healthy tips to arrange your room the best way where balance of Chi flows positively;

      1. Draw a square and imagine that it is your room, with the lower line representing the entrance.

      2. Divide the square equally to nine squares; three rows of three squares each.Start from the lowest row of squares – the area you first walk in to the room. The left corner of the room is the area of Knowledge, the center square of that same row relates to Career and the right hand square is Helpful People/Travel.

      3. One could use the following to arrange;

        Knowledge – Bookcase, Books, Self-Development tools…etc.

        Career – Mirrors and water related items

        Helpful People/Travel – Pictures of the ones who have helped youThen look at the central row of squares; starting from the left square, it relates to Family/Health, the central square is the center and the right hand square represents Creativity/ Children.

      4. One could use the following to arrange;

        Family/Health – Family photos and plants

        Creativity/Children – Artwork or computerFinally, taking the last row of squares in to consideration; the left square represents Wealth, the square in the center represents Fame/Reputation and the right hand square represents Relationships/Romance.

      5. One could use the following to arrange;

        Wealth – Money, Jewellery, fish, anything red, purple or gold

        Fame/Reputation – Candles or Awards

        Relationships/ Romance – Paired objects, pictures of loved ones or anything pink

Feng Shui is brought to the world by the Chinese, and a similar method of attracting positive energy through arranging your space appropriately is through Vaastu, meaning “a place of dwelling” was introduced by the early Indian civilization.

Both methods however, has one common cause – to ensure that a healthy life is lead in peace and prosperity.
