Colombo Fort pavement hawkers to be relocated to new building

The Megapolis Ministry has received cabinet approval to relocate pavement hawkers and shops in the Colombo Fort area.


It was proposed to relocate pavement hawkers at Olcott Mawatha to open up the area for convenient pedestrian movement while providing access to valuable land.


The estimated cost of this project is 22 million rupees and the contractor will be selected through competitive tender procedure.


It has also been proposed to complete the construction of Colombo pedestrian web at a cost of 44 million rupees.


Seventy five percent of the phase one of pedestrian web project has already been completed by the Sri Lanka Navy.


First phase covers, D R Wijewardena Mawatha to Olcott Mawatha along the boundary of Lake House premises and Beira Lake Canal.


Second phase of the project will continue from Olcott Mawatha to Sea Street along the boundary of Sri Lanka Ports Authority Warehouse and Beira Lake Canal.
